They are distinguished primarily by their thick woolly coat and pointed spiral-shaped horns.

Due to the charming qualities of sheep, they are very interesting subjects for drawing. That’s why we’ve created a step-by-step guide on how to draw a sheep, summarized in 9 quick and easy steps.

Plus, each guide comes with an illustration to make it even easier to follow the steps!

How to Draw A Sheep

Step 1

Draw an irregular circular shape that will form the sheep’s head. The bottom of this figure must be wider than the top.

Remember that it is important to draw with light strokes when outlining.

Avoid using too much pressure with the pen so you can easily erase some of the outlines you may not need later.

Step 2

On top of the sheep’s head, draw a curved line that almost forms a circle. Then draw a shorter curved line right next to it. This creates the fur piled up on the top of the head.

Ewes typically have long, thick coats. So keep that in mind when drawing fur. Remember that it’s okay if the coat looks disheveled. In fact, the fluffier the tufts of fur, the softer and more realistic it looks.

Step 3

Although most sheep typically have a pair of spiraling horns on their foreheads, some sheep do not. For this tutorial, we will draw a pair of horns to show the sheep in more detail.

Continue by drawing a spiral figure on the top right side of the sheep’s head. The spiral might seem difficult to draw, but it’s much easier than you think!

Just draw a vertical oval shape with a teardrop-shaped figure on one side. And that’s it: Our sheep now has its own horn!

Step 4

Create more tufts of fur on the left side of the sheep’s head by drawing a line with more curves.

Step 5

Repeat the previous step to add more fur to the sheep’s head.

After completing this step, the entire head of the sheep should now be surrounded by fluffy-looking hair.

Step 6

Draw the left horn attached to the left side of the sheep’s head.

Because the sheep faces the left side, the left horn would not be fully visible, as shown in the image.

Step 7

Draw a line with several curves forming an oval shape to create the sheep’s woolly body. With good drawing, the body should look like fluffy cotton wool.

The larger the shape, the plumper the sheep appears. We think the sheep’s round, voluminous body surrounded by fleece is what makes it so adorable!

Step 8

Just below the body, draw three curved lines in a U shape to create the three visible legs of the sheep.

Don’t forget to add lines on each foot to create the look of hooves, one of the most distinctive features of sheep!

Step 9

Complete your sheep design by adding facial features. Continue by drawing two giant oval shapes that stand side by side to outline the sheep’s pair of eyes.

Then, in each eye, draw a smaller oval shape with a small circle inside. Shade the inner oval shape and omit the small unshaded circle to create the illusion of “sparkly eyes.”

Next, draw an inverted triangle shape with a vertical line at the bottom to create the sheep’s face.

Finally, make sure to add more parallel horizontal lines on the surface of each horn to create a crucial detail!

Be proud of yourself because you managed to draw an adorable woolly sheep! Now it’s time for the long-awaited part: choosing the colors and dyeing the sheep.

Show off your artistic skills in this part, especially your ability to combine different colors.

Although the sheep we often see are white, some are dark wool sheep.

In general, the color of a sheepskin range from white and cream to brown and black.

You can color the sheep in traditional colors or use a unique color palette.

We recommend the latter so that you can personalize your artwork and make your drawing activity even more fun!
