Umrah in Ramadan holds equivalent rewards of performing Hajj. Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) narrated in a hadith that, Umrah in Ramadan equals Hajj. However, that does not mean Umrah performance in Ramadan suffices for one’s obligatory pilgrimage. Rather, it is just the reward that is equivalent.
Any person performing Umrah in Ramadan doesn’t not fulfil his religious obligation of Hajj (taking it as an alternative). In other words, Hajj is still Fardh on such a person if he/she has the means for it and haven’t already performed it in lifetime.
Expiation of Sins.
Umrah purifies the spirit of a Muslim. When a pilgrim returns home after performing holy rituals of minor pilgrimage, he/she not only has the renewed perspective of life but also liberated from the burden of sins. Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) said in a hadith that, from one Umrah to another; it is the expiation of sins committed between them.
However, it is only possible when a pilgrims intended holy pilgrimage with the righteous intentions and honesty.
Removal of poverty.
Umrah requires a person to spend from the financial resources. Covering for all of your pilgrimage travel and accommodation expenses is a something that not everyone can afford. Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) narrated in a hadith that Umrah removes sins and poverty for a believer similar to fire removing impurities from iron.
Increased spiritual status.
Ramadan brings the peak spiritual period in the while of the Islamic year. It is the time when Muslims increase in their acts of worship; do a lot of charity; take part in righteous deeds and abstain from all sorts of wrongdoings to the maximum extent.
