Silence

What is a spy thriller for you? High-flying action to Agent 007 casually buttoning up his tuxedo after every explosion? As soon as one hears the word “spy,” one thinks of all the smoking guns, the adventure, and all the action we have become accustomed to in pop culture’s rendition of spy thrillers and that of Hollywood.

With all the stealth in espionage, you can’t help but wonder, what is on the far side of silence?

Let’s catch a glimpse of what it’s like to be a top-secret agent.

It’s Not Very James Bond

Straight away, debunking some of the myths and stereotypes surrounding the genre, being a top-secret agent is not always as charming. Harry Ferguson, a former MI6 operative, gives a rather interesting take on what it is like being a spy.

Not to burst your bubble, but a lot about being a spy is doing the mundane. There is a great deal of research that goes into tasks rather than some random combat you see in movies. You often find yourself circling around basic information. There is a lot of repetitive work, such as setting up meetings, that often amount to nothing. This is what tests your resilience and patience, which is integral to being a spy.

It Can Be a Lonely Job

Speaking of loneliness, Ferguson also vented how empty the job can become. When your literal job description is “to remain hidden,” there can be side effects. Yeah, you have more knowledge about what is happening behind the scenes, information that may never meet the light of day; with that being said, it will become difficult to relate to people and make connections. When you’re in the spy game, you aren’t even allowed to tell your partner what is going on.

The “Dangers” Are a Different Kind of Dangerous

If there is one thing that is undoubtedly similar between a pop culture-driven and real-life spy agent is the dangers that come with being a spy. Well, almost. There is a death threat lurking in every corner. There are, instead, psychological harms that can corrode your mind from within if it isn’t resilient enough. Working conditions are rigorous, and the stress is very high. For undercover agents, maintaining a work-life balance can be very difficult.

Presenting You The Far Side of Silence

Through all the portrayals of a secret agent’s espionage on the big screen as opposed to reality, there is a need for an authentic glimpse into their job.

James Bonds? Jason Bourne? No.

Authors Robert B. Marcus Jr. and Kim Frank Richardson bring you top secret agent Alexander Gray, a man tasked to execute his life’s most dangerous undercover mission. The Far Side of Silence does justice to its title, showing an exciting yet authentic adaptation of the hardships a spy faces.

Gray is thrown into a spiral of betrayal, deception, and psychological warfare. Through all the odds, Gray is expected to evade and outwit those working against the president. Will justice prevail? Will Gray be able to use his background as a doctor as well as a Navy Seal to overcome his obstacles?

Or will he fail?
